How to verify a bulk catalog price update

Use a before snapshot, approved prices and actual export to check a catalog update against its target.

Start with the target, not just the difference

A before-and-after comparison shows that a price moved. It does not tell you whether the new price was the one approved. Keep the approved change sheet alongside the original snapshot and the actual export. This separates requested changes from other differences.

Use a small, explicit change sheet

For each stable SKU, include the target Price. If you are also changing status or another field, include it deliberately. For existing identities, selected fields without a mapped target column are checked against their original values. Fields not selected in the original-to-actual mapping are outside the verification scope. Do not infer currency conversion or expected platform defaults from a raw import file.

Check three outcomes

In our worked example, ST-001 moves from 89.00 to the target 95.00. ST-002 remains 145.00 despite a target of 155.00. ST-004 changes from active to draft even though no status change was approved. All three are useful observations to include in the handoff.

Keep the snapshots comparable

Export the same catalog scope before and afterward. Separate SKU changes from value changes. Verify any duplicate or blank keys. Native Shopify product files can contain image-only rows and inherited product fields; prepare complete SKU rows before using this version.

Hand over the record

Retain the original files securely and give the client an evidence package containing settings, file hashes and outcomes. A hash identifies the supplied bytes. It does not independently prove that the file came from the store or that someone approved it.
